Officers began investigating on Thursday, Feb. 20, after receiving information Sefereno Castro, a 39-year-old Atlantic City resident, was selling heroin from a vehicle in Renaissance Plaza on the 1500 block of Atlantic Ave, Atlantic City police said.
When approached by detectives, Castro locked himself in his vehicle and refused to come out, police said. He eventually exited and was taken into custody, where he was found to be in possession of 100 individual bags of heroin, police said.
An additional search led to the discovery of an additional 905 individual bags of heroin, 64.5 grams of cocaine, 51 grams of PCP, a small amount of methamphetamine, and items used in the distribution of narcotics, police said.
On Tuesday, March 4, a search of a motel room on the 3000 block of Pacific Avenue resulted in the arrest of five men and the discovery of almost six ounces of cocaine, 10 grams of unpackaged heroin, 111 individual bags of heroin, and small amounts of methamphetamine, mushrooms, and ecstasy, police said.
On Thursday, March 6, a vehicle, driven by Michael Horton, a 32-year-old Mays Landing resident, entered the city while in possession of an illegal firearm, police said.
Horton parked the vehicle, left it running and entered a motel on Kentucky Avenue, police said. Horton was eventually arrested after initially being uncooperative and found to have several active warrants for his arrest and was in possession of small amounts of cocaine and heroin, police said.
Police searched Horton's room and found a manufacturing facility for crack cocaine. Inside of Horton’s vehicle, detectives recovered a loaded handgun, 67 grams of cocaine, 150 individual bags of heroin, and items used in the distribution of narcotics, police said.
The other five men arrested and hit with numerous drug charges are: Jose Perez, a 28-year-old Pleasantville resident, Dante Perez, a 31-year-old Atlantic City resident, Luis Rivas-Florian, a 23-year-old Galloway resident, Wayne Timms, a 39-year-old Atlantic City resident and Jean Luis Mesquita, a 28-year-old Atlantic City resident.
Each man was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility, police said.
